Wisconsin vs. Minnesota Dual Postmatch Quotes

Head Coach Barry Davis
On the overall performances:
"We had some really good wins. Crone came from three takedowns down to win that match to start the dual meet was great. Ryan Christensen went in overtime, you know another good win. So good things are happening but there are things we need to work on as a team, a couple guys we need to get back to just wrestling. We're building momentum but there's still work to be done. That's tough you go five and five and have a chance to maybe go six and four in this dual, like TJ gets that pin and it's over you know six points, but you know he's rushing stuff. You can't rush, you've got to stay within yourself and do that. But we're moving forward and good stuff is going on."

On Crone's win contributing to the team's momentum:
"It was a good thing. The whole team is out there supporting him and saying stuff and it's a real positive. Again it's a good win and it shows that a guy like Crone who was struggling at the beginning of the year, now he's healthy and wrestling well and he's got to keep it going. But there are guys who need to turn that around here, like Johnny's turned it around, Crone's turned it around, Ryan Christensen, a couple of more guys have turned it around. We've got a lot of the year left but we need to change things here soon because the clock's ticking."

On Johnny Jimenez's progress:
"We just changed a few things in practice. I had to sit down and have a heart to heart talk with him, and really Johnny you've got to do what you've got to do. I stopped by his house a couple of weeks ago, drove over there late at night to sit down and talk and I said, 'It's a change you've got to make son. If you don't make it, it's not going to work here.' It was a short, to the point conversation, he got what I was saying and he understood it so he's made the change."

Andrew Crone
On his big upset:
"It felt good, first match of the dual just wanted to get the ball rolling for the team. I've been doing pretty well, wrestling really well. I feel like I'm pushing myself in practice and really pushing the pace and it was just a big win."

On what has changed in his performance recently:
"I think it all starts in the practice room and being consistent and really believing in my training and pushing myself every day in practice so that when I'm out on the mat I can push myself 100 percent for seven minutes. I'm just believing in myself and knowing that at the end of the season I'm going to be on that podium."

On the overall improvement of the team:
"I think as a team we've really been buying in and knowing that if we stick to what the coaches are telling us to do then eventually we'll start seeing results and we're working hard and we're making progress. We're not quite there yet but we're definitely making gains and I'm glad that the guys are buying in and believing in that, and it's showing in the practice room and I think that's just a big step for us."
