Davis Named to Walter Camp Award Watch List
August 23, 2004 | Football
UW senior running back Anthony Davis is among 40 players nationwide to be named to the watch list for the 2004 Walter Camp Award. The award honors the nation's top player.
Davis is one of six Big Ten players to be named to the list. The Big Ten's six honorees ranks third among all leagues behind only the Big 12 (10) and the SEC (7). Other Big Ten players on the list include Iowa running back Jermelle Lewis, Michigan wide receiver Braylon Edwards, Minnesota running back Marion Barber III, Ohio State linebacker A.J. Hawk and Purdue quarterback Kyle Orton.
Davis was an All-Big Ten selection as both a freshman and a sophomore before missing all or parts of nine games last season due to injury. He enters the 2004 campaign ranked third in school history with 3,703 rushing yards. He needs just six yards to tie Billy Marek for second place.
The Walter Camp Player of the Year watch list will be narrowed to 10 semi-finalists in early November and the winner of the award will be announced on the ESPN/Home Depot College Football Awards Show in December.
UW opens the 2004 season at home on Sept. 4 when it takes on UCF at Camp Randall Stadium.
