February 21, 2005 | Men's Basketball
Wisconsin senior forward Mike Wilkinson was named first-team All-District 11 by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, while sophomore forward Alando Tucker was a second-team selection, the NABC announced on Friday. Joining Wilkinson on the first team were three Illinois players, Dee Brown, Luther Head and Deron Williams, along with Minnesota's Vincent Grier. The second team consisted of Tucker, Paul Davis (Michigan State), Travis Diener (Marquette), Darren Brooks (Southern Illinois) and Quemont Greer (DePaul).
Wilkinson, who was a second-team all-district selection last year, is averaging 14.2 points and 7.3 rebounds this season while shooting .522 from the field. In Big Ten games, he is among the league leaders in all three categories, averaging 15.8 points, 8.1 rebounds and shooting .558 from the floor. He has scored in double figures in 17 of the last 19 games and has six 20-point efforts this season.
Tucker is leading the Badgers in scoring in all games, averaging 14.7 points. His 6.9 rebounds per game are second on the team to Wilkinson. He has 15 double-figure scoring games this season and has scored 20 or more points on six occasions, including a career-high 27 in the UW's win over Maryland on Nov. 30.
Wilkinson and Tucker, along with the other all-district selections, are now eligible for the NABC Division I All-American Team to be announced at the conclusion of the 2004-2005 NCAA men's basketball season. The all-district and All-American teams are selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC.
