MADISON, Wis. – Two former Wisconsin rowers will take part in The Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race this weekend. The race, which will take place on the Thames River in London, will air live on BBC America on Saturday.
Fans can tune in to follow the race as coxswain Adam Barhamand and Derek Rasmussen continue the Badger rowing tradition overseas. BBC America will air a live one-hour race special on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. The race will also air on BBC World News.
Barhamand is in his second year at Oxford and earned the coxswain spot for the Oxford Dark Blues while Rasmussen will row for Cambridge. The duo rowed in Wisconsin’s 2008 national championship-winning varsity eight.
The pair becomes the third and fourth Badgers in recent history to take part in The Boat Race. In 2006, Paul Daniels helped Oxford win the race, while in 2003, Sam McLennan did the same.
The Wisconsin rowing team opens its season against Michigan in Madison on April 10.
