MADISON, Wis. -- With its 16-7 league record, the No. 25 Wisconsin softball team has earned the fourth seed in the 2013 Big Ten Softball Tournament. The Badgers open tournament action at 11:30 a.m. on Friday at Bowlin Stadium in Lincoln, Neb. Michigan earned the No. 1 seed after clinching its 16th conference championship last weekend.
The top-four seeds received byes into Friday's quarterfinals, while four first-round games will be played on Thursday. First pitch of the tournament is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Thursday when No. 5 Northwestern takes on No. 12 Indiana, with the winner facing the fourth-seeded Badgers on Friday.
The tournament, returning for the first time since 2008, is a single-elimination format with the tournament champion earning the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA championship.
Wisconsin's (39-11. 16-7) last appearance in the league championship was in 2005, where it recorded a 1-1 record. The Badgers are 2-7 all-time in the championship event.
