Wisconsin vs. Minnesota

Wisconsin Head Coach Bobbie Kelsey

Opening Statement:
"Obviously we just showed what we can do when we play together and we have some people out there that are going to fight. So we are going to make some adjustments and changes but again it's the same story this week, you fight back but then you're still not winning the game. We had some bright spots but kudos to Minnesota they have a lot of good shooters, playmakers, people that can make their own shots. We did even up the board somewhat, but that first half we had sixteen, seventeen offensive rebounds and you can't give up that many offensive rebounds and expect to have any success. We did fight back, I'm proud of our group we didn't turn the ball over. There's maybe one or two we wish we had back but we're going to keep grinding, we'll get it. That last group is the one I'm most interested in so we're going to see what that looks like."

On Tessa's contributions:
"Tessa did go to the board, she had five offensive rebounds, so to her point you can do something else. Some people are stuck on one thing and so until they figure it out, and we'll keep helping them, there's more you can do out there besides scoring. If you want to score, work on your shot, work on it. We don't tell anybody they can't score, you just take the shot you can make."

On the mindset needed to compete against Minnesota:
"They're competitive. You've got to have attitude out here and a hunger to get somebody. You've got to be in attack mode all the time whether it be one the offensive end or the defensive end. They don't back down from anybody, you have to get your mind set in a position where you feel like you can do anything asked of me out there whether it be scoring, defense, whatever my team needs I'm going to do it."

Senior G Tessa Cichy
On her aggressiveness:
"What worked for us tonight was attacking them and kicking. I guess when my shots don't go in, it's not my main focus but you can always do something else, that's what Coach Bobbie always says. There's always other things you can do and yeah,  they weren't flying tonight but Nicole hit, other people hit and I was just trying to focus on my defense tonight and my shots will hopefully fall I'll just keep working on them."

Senior G Nicole Bauman
On shooting seven of eight 3-pointers today:
"Obviously we were down by a lot so I was feeling it, when I was open I shot it. My teammates did a good job of giving me the ball at the end when I was open like Tessa said we were penetrating and kicking and getting nice little dishes but like Coach Bobbie said we just have to play hard the whole game and you have to put a group in there that wants to work and wants to play hard."

Minnesota Head Coach – Marlene Stollings
Opening Statement:

"I'd like to start by giving credit to Wisconsin for battling all the way through to the end of the game. I thought they could've rolled over many times. They were down 23 near the end of the third quarter but they just kept battling and fighting their way back. Some of those shots they hit in the fourth were highly contested so credit to them for their fight throughout the game, even with a sizeable deficit. As for our kids, I'm really proud of our rebounding, 23 offensive rebounds was huge for us. Rachel (Banham) and Carlie (Wagner) getting 20 points, they pretty much seem to get every time out for us. I'm just proud of our win and overall resiliency despite the big run Wisconsin made at the end."

On team depth:
"Well, the ladies we have out there when she goes out played together last year without her so I think they're very comfortable and confident in those moments when she has to go out of a game that they know what they're supposed to do. And we have some offensive fire power out there even when (Banham's) out, so it's just a nice luxury to have so many different guards that can put up number at any given time and I thought they handled that well."

On what changed between third quarter and fourth when Wisconsin made their run:
"Well I think number one, our kids relaxed a little bit. It was a sizeable lead to have that late in the game and we're trying very hard to keep them intense but no matter what you say to them, sometimes in those moments it just doesn't work and they think it's kind of over so I think that's what happened to us even it definitely shouldn't have happened. And obviously that's something we'll learn today, but again credit to Wisconsin, I very much give them credit in that moment when they could've folded and we could've just continued to build our lead but they just continued to fight and their shots started to fall and then they got very confident and that's what can happen in those moments."
