MADISON, Wis. – University of Wisconsin men's soccer head coach
John Trask was inducted into the Wisconsin Soccer Hall of Fame on Saturday night for his accomplishments both as a player and a coach.
"What a great honor to be inducted into the Wisconsin Soccer Hall of Fame, to have my mom and younger brother (Rodney) as well as so many former teammates present made for a very special night," said Trask. "To see the names of so many my childhood heroes who have been inducted as well as share this honor with the other 2018 class was really cool. I know it is something I will not soon forget and to have my wife (Jela) and son (Jack) meet so many important people in my life and be a part of such a special night was awesome.
"I would also like to thank my staff, Keith (Tiemeyer), Aaron (Holhbein) and Timmy (Boruff) for being there and I realize how lucky I am to have such terrific people to work with here at UW Soccer."
As a player for Whitefish Bay High School north of Milwaukee, Trask led his team to win three out of four state championships in his career, finishing runner-up to Madison Memorial in his sophomore year.
Trask tallied 99 goals in his high school career and had a school record 37 goals as a freshman. He was a Youth State champion multiple times.
Trask returned to his home state to play with the Serbian S.C. Milwaukee when the team won the championship in the years of 1983-84 and 1985-86.
From 1984-87, he played college soccer for Indiana. The midfielder was a member of the 1984 NCAA Tournament runner-up team.
As head coach for the Badgers, Trask led the team to its first-ever outright Big Ten Conference Tournament title last season and took the team to its first Sweet 16 appearance since 1995. He had a record number of four players drafted into Major League Soccer this year in two-time All-American
