MADISON, Wis. – The Badgers (22-10 in 2017) wrap up their 2018 spring season by hosting Marquette (22-10) on Friday at 7 p.m. in the UW Field House.Â
1. LAST WEEK: Wisconsin dropped a 3-1 decision to Creighton last Sunday at Ankeny Centennial High School in Ankeny, Iowa. The Bluejays aced the Badgers eight times in the match to key the win. Junior-to-be Madison Duello led UW with 14 kills while Tionna Williams and Dana Rettke both added 10 kills.
2. BADGER BLOCK: Wisconsin is outblocking opponents 2.71 - 1.57 per set this spring. The Badgers outblocked Loyola Chicago 8-3 on April 14 and outstopped Creighton 11-8 on Sunday. Sophomore-to-be Dana Rettke is averaging a team-best 1.86 blocks per set.
3. SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES: Marquette was 22-10 in 2017, finishing second to Creighton in the Big East regular season and conference tournament. MU advanced to the NCAA tournament, losing to Wisconsin, 3-0, in the first round. The Golden Eagles lose only one senior to graduation - defensive specialist Manon Geoffroy - returning all seven starters and 13 letterwinners. Sophomore Allie Barber led MU with 4.71 kills per set last fall while redshirt junior Jenna Rosenthal averaged a team-best 1.07 blocks per set. Sophomore Laura Speckman put up 11.61 assists at setter and freshman Martha Konovodoff averaged 4.11 digs per set.
4. AGAINST MARQUETTE: Wisconsin is 18-0 all-time against the Golden Eagles, including a 10-0 mark in Madison. The two teams last met in the first round of the 2017 NCAA tournament with the Badgers sweeping Marquette in Ames, Iowa.Â
5. #FUTURE OF THE FIELD HOUSE: For the first time since 2007, sections of the upper deck of the UW Field House will be open for fans beginning in the 2018 volleyball season. The new sections, which will all be general admission, will raise the capacity of the facility to 7,052, an increase of 1,040 from the previous capacity. Read all about it here!
