- Only shot putter to win four straight Big Ten indoor titles
- Set Big Ten Indoor meet record and school record in 1979 at 61-7 ½
- Set Big Ten Outdoor record and UW school record of 63-2
- Three-time Big Ten Outdoor champion in the shot put
- Big Ten champion in the discus in 1979
- Four-time team most valuable field event performer
- 1979 team captain and team MVP
- Competed internationally from 1980-88
- U.S. National champion in the indoor shot put in 1982; won the USA/Mobil Grand Prix Award
- Two-time U.S. team member competing in the 1982 USA vs. England dual, and 1987 Pan-American Games
- Assistant Track and Field coach for the UW from 1983-89
- Badgers won 13 Big Ten titles in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track during his tenure
- Coached three school record holders, one All-American and three Big Ten champions in the throws
