Wisconsin Sweeps Alabama-Huntsville

Three goals in the second period elevated the Badgers to a 3-2 win over the Chargers tonight at the Kohl Center. It was the Badgers first home sweep over a non-conference opponent at home since Oct. 2000 over U-Mass Amherst. Eight different Badgers recorded points in the Wisconsin win.
After a scoreless first period, Freshman Nick Licari scored his first Badger goal when he slapped in a rebound past UAH's Adam MacLean. Brent Gibson and Joe Simon assisted in Licari's first goal at 3:21 of the second period.
Five minutes later defenseman Chris Julka scored. The goal was Julka 's first career goal. Adam Burish and Erik Jensen cycled the puck up to Julka, who took a wrist shot from the point. The puck grazed over MacLean's shoulder for the goal.
The game-winning goal came at 14:11 of the second and was scored by Sophomore Alex Leavitt. Ryan MacMurchy rebounded the puck off the backboards to Leavitt. Leavitt took the shot from the side of the net to notch the goal.
After the three consecutive goals for the Badgers, Charger Karlis Zirnis scored his second goal of the series. The Badger defense turned over the puck, Ryan Leasa gained control of the puck which allowed UAH to score their first goal of the night. The Charger goal brought the score to 3-1 at the end of the second period.
In the third period the Chargers scored their second and final goal of the night. Charger Jared Ross took advantage of the power-play opportunity when he netted the goal at 13:19 of the third.
The victory was the first of the season for UW netminder Bernd Bruckler. Bruckler made 18 saves.
The Badgers will make their first road trip of the season when they travel next weekend to the East coast to face off against Boston College on Friday night and Northeastern on Saturday night. Both game times are scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
