Former Badgers to Represent USA Hockey

Former Badgers Kelly Fairchild (Hibbing, Minn.) and Chris Tancill (Livonia, Mich.) will play for the U.S. National Selects in its inaugural appearance in the Deutschland Cup. The four-team international tournament will take place November 8-10 in Hannover, Germany. Each team will play three games in a round-robin format. In addition to the U.S., this year 's tournament participants include Switzerland ' the 2001 Deutschland Cup champion, Canada ' winner of the 2000 Deutschland Cup, and Germany ' the host nation.
Fairchild was on the Badger roster from 1991-94, playing 125 games. In his career, Fairchild scored 56 goals and had 83 assists. He currently plays for the EHC Eisbaren Berlin of the German League.
Tancill played for the Badgers from 1986-90. In his 173 games at the UW, the forward had 81 goals and 92 assists for 173 points. Tancill also has played in three IIHF World Championships (1996-97 and 2000) and part of eight seasons in the NHL. He currently plays in the Swiss National League for the EV Zug.
In addition to the two former Badgers, the U.S. roster contains Americans who are currently playing in European professional leagues, with many having NHL experience. Seven members of the team are U.S. Olympians, and 11 have competed on U.S. National Teams.
