Badger Openweights Start Season Against Navy

The Wisconsin women's openweight rowing team, during its spring break training, competed in its first competition of the 2002 season when it raced against Navy on Friday.
The Badgers won four of the five races competed, with the varsity eight, junior varsity eight, varsity four and second novice eight winning races. Navy won the novice eight competition.
In the varsity eight, the Badgers came back from a boat-length deficit to claim the win. Wisconsin rowed to a 6:39.6, while Navy finished in 6:42.8. The Badger win in the junior varsity eight was by almost 10 seconds. The UW raced in 6:45.4, while Navy crossed the line in 6:54.1.
Wisconsin's varsity four won in 7:36.5, better than Navy 's second-place finish of 8:05.3. The second novice eight saw the Badgers come from behind over the last 30 strokes and edge Navy, 6:56.7 to 6:58.2. Wisconsin also raced its third novice eight in the race, finishing in third with a time of 6:58.2.
The Badgers compete again Saturday in New Brunswick, N.J. Wisconsin will race against Rutgers and Northeastern.
