Badger Women Rowers Dual With Iowa

The Wisconsin women's openweight rowing team won three of five races Saturday morning against the Iowa Hawkeyes on the chilly waters of Lake Mendota. It was the Badgers ' first home race of the spring season.
Wisconsin was victorious in the second novice eight, second varsity eight and the first novice eight, while Iowa won the varsity four and the first varsity eight.
UW rowed to convincing victories in both novice races. In the last race of the morning, the Badgers' first novice eight finished in a time of 7:20.0, over six seconds ahead of Iowa. The second novice eight won with a time of 7:45.7, a margin of victory of 15.3 seconds.
Wisconsin's second varsity eight defeated Iowa in a very close race. The Badgers' time of 7:14.2 beat out Iowa's 7:15.6.
The Badgers first varsity eight rowed close with the 18th-ranked Hawkeyes, but fell 3.6 seconds short. Iowa crossed the finish line in a time of 7:01.3, with Wisconsin coming in at 7:04.9. The tightest race of the morning came in the varsity four, with Iowa edging out Wisconsin. The Hawkeyes' time of 8:09.8 narrowly beat the Badgers' time of 8:10.7.
The Wisconsin women again take to the waters next Saturday in Seattle, Wash., against Washington State and top-ranked Washington. The Badgers return to Madison on Saturday, April 27 to compete in the annual Midwest Rowing Championship.
