Openweights Continue Strong Start at Head of the Rock
October 10, 2004 | Women's Rowing
The openweight crew team raced very well Sunday in Rockford, Ill., at the Head of the Rock regatta. The weather was perfect for racing, with a slight tailwind for the rowers to help give them quicker times.
The team won every event that they were entered in and won in convincing style. The team took first in both eights with very fast times of 15:43.20 in the open, and 17:04.90 in the novice class.
'Today was a great day for all the girls, and especially our team as a whole,' said head coach Bebe Bryans. 'They did a great job staying composed, and showed lots of progress and confidence while competing.'
The novice team also performed well taking third in the eights, and placed 14th in the openweight eights. They placed first, third, fifth, and ninth throughout the days races.
The women continue to train and practice for the next few weeks. They will be inaction again Sunday Oct. 31 in Elkhart, Ind. at the Head of the Elk regatta.
