Ferris State Downs Clarkson, 4-1 in Badger Hockey Showdown

Clarkson and Ferris State faced off at the Kohl Center in the first game of the Badger Hockey Showdown Friday. Scoring two goals in the first period, Ferris State controlled the game and conceded just one goal to finish the game 4-1. FSU improved its season record to 7-10-2 while Clarkson dropped to 4-12-2.
Jeff Legue scored the first goal on a power play eight minutes into the game. Greg Rallo lit the lamp to close out the period at 17:09. Joe Van Culin added his sixth assist of the season on the play.
In the second, Clarkson jumped in the game with a Jay Latulippe goal at 12:14. Helpers on the score were Brodie Ruthergle and Steve Zalewski.
In the final stanza, the Bulldogs posted two more goals to seal the victory. Derek Nesbitt scored at 4:15 and finished with two points after he added an assist on FSU's first goal. Jim Jorgensen also tallied two points with an assist on Nesbitt's goal and on the Bulldogs' final mark at 16:21 setting up Andrew Winnik for the score.
In net, Dustin Traylen faced 23 shots saving 19 for Clarkson while Mike Brown collected 22 for Ferris State.
Winning the game, Ferris State will take on the winner of tonight 's Wisconsin-Yale game and defend the 2003 title in the championship contest at 7:07 p.m. New Year's Day. The loser of the Wisconsin-Yale game will meet Clarkson in the consolation game to be played at 4:07 p.m. prior to the championship. It will be Ferris State's second trip to the Showdown's championship game in as many years.
