Harmon Named Rowing All-American
June 02, 2004 | Women's Rowing
University of Wisconsin women's openweight rower Kari Harmon (Menomonie, Wis.) earned selection to the sixth-annual Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) All-America team, the organization announced today. Harmon, a sophomore and member of Wisconsin's 16th-place NCAA varsity eight, made the second team.
Harmon rowed the entire spring with Wisconsin's top boat, helping the Badgers climb from No. 19 in the preseason CRCA/USRowing poll to as high as No. 10 in the rankings. The boat placed third at the Big Ten championship, the school 's highest finish, and placed fifth at the 2004 Central/South Region NCAA Qualifier. The boat also place fifth at the San Diego Crew Classic, the university 's best result since 1998.
A CRCA first-team All-Central Region selection, Harmon is believed to be just the second Wisconsin rowing All-American since the team was created in 1999. She joins 1999 second-team selection Kati Hope as Badger rowing All-Americans.
Harmon and her Badger teammates placed 11th as a team at the 2004 NCAA Rowing Championships last weekend in Rancho Cordova, Calif.
