Women Sweep Competition, Men Beat Louisville at Quad Meet

The Wisconsin men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed against Louisville, Southern Illinois and Indiana at the Quadular Meet in Bloomington, Ind. on Friday.
The women's team swept the competition. The team beat Indiana 149-77, Southern Illinois 150-78 and Louisville 155-73. The men's team beat Louisville 131-93 but fell to Indiana, 120-106 and Southern Illinois, 123-105.
The Badger women swept the top two spots in eight events and the top three spots in four events. Seniors Anna Trinidad, Sarah Hernandez and freshmen Yi Ting Siow and Jennifer Ilescas all won two events each. Trinidad recorded a time of 1:51.29 in the 200-yard freestyle and a 2:00.68 in the 200-yard backstroke. Hernandez finished first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.06 and in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.47.
Siow swam a 2:13.00 for a first-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke and a 2:01.76 in the 200-yard individual medley. Illescas swam a 16:50.68 in the 1650-yard freestyle and a 4:53.41 in the 500-yard freestyle. She also finished second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:03.79.
Tom Molzahn led the men with a first-place and second-place finish. The junior captain swam a 4:35.21 for a first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle and a 1:40.71 for a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle. Both times were improvements from Molzahn's previous meet against Arizona. At the meet, Molzahn swam a 1:41.31 in the 200-yard freestyle and a 4:35.56 in the 500-yard freestyle.
After Molzahn, sophomore Mike Swanson and senior Michael Hamm placed second and third, respectively, in the 500-yard freestyle. Swanson swam a time of 4:37.78 and Hamm swam a 4:38.08. Hamm also had a third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:43.41.
For the Badger divers, sophomore Justin Bonner scored 245.50 points to finish fourth on the 1-meter while senior Amanda Witte finished seventh on the 1-meter with 219.55.
The Badger swim teams are back in action when they return home to host Northwestern on Nov. 10. The meet kicks off at 5 p.m. at the Natatorium.
