April 25, 2005 | Women's Rowing
Wisconsin's women's openweight rowing team is seeded among the top three boats in five of six events scheduled for the 2005 Big Ten Rowing Championship , Saturday on Lake Lemon in Bloomington, Ind.
The varsity four leads the way for Wisconsin as the UW's entry is the top seed in the race. Seeded second for the Badgers are the second varsity eight and second varsity four. Wisconsin's top boat, its varsity eight, earned the No. 4 seed. The Badgers' novice eight is seeded third, while Wisconsin's second novice eight, Big Ten champions in the first five conference rowing championships, is also seeded third.
Michigan, the top seed in the varsity eight, is the defending champion and has taken four of the five previous team titles. Ohio State's varsity eight is seeded second, while Michigan State's varsity eight is seeded third. Ohio State is the only school other than Michigan to win a Big Ten title.
The Badgers finished second at the 2004 Big Ten Rowing Championship, the team's highest result in the five-year history of the event.
Scoring for the championship is weighted with the varsity eight, second varsity eight and varsity four, the three boats that race at the NCAA championships, worth the most points.
