Badgers Finish Day Three at World Championship Trials

Five former and current swimmers representing the University of Wisconsin competed Sunday at the World Championship Trials. No Badgers placed in the top-10 after day three at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind.
Freshmen Jackie Vavrek (West Chicago, Ill) led the Badgers taking 15th in the final of the 50-meter freestyle (26.71) after qualifying ninth in the prelims. Vavrek was the only current UW swimmer to compete today.
Former Badgers competing were Matt Marshall, Bethany Pendleton and Dale Rodgers. Marshall competed in two events today, the 100-meter fly and 50-meter freestyle. He finished 15th in the 50-meter free (23.46) and after qualifying 15th in the prelims of the 100-meter fly (55.19), he did not compete in the finals.
Also swimming in the 50-meter freestyle was Rodgers, taking 13th in the finals in a time of 23.54. Pendleton placed 15th in the finals of the 400-meter IM in a time of 4:56.30.
Tomorrow's competition will include; Rodgers and Marshall in the 100-meter freestyle, Tim Liebhold in the 200-meter IM and Pendleton and Susan Johnson in the 200-meter backstroke.
