Lennart, Gedman Earn Rowing All-Big Ten Honors
May 02, 2005 | Women's Rowing
Seniors Nikki Lennart (Milwaukee) and Shannon Gedman (Waukesha, Wis.) were named first-team and second-team All-Big Ten, respectively, at the 2005 Big Ten Rowing Championship held this past Saturday.
Lennart, a second-team All-Big Ten pick in 2004 and a member of the 2004 Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association All-Central Region team, earned first-team honors this time around. Seven seat for the Badgers' 14th-ranked varsity eight, she helped the boat place fourth at the Big Ten championship on Saturday.
Gedman, a 2004 Academic All-Big Ten selection, rowed as the two seat for Wisconsin's fourth-place varsity eight at the Big Ten rowing championship. She has been a member of the UW varsity eight for the past three seasons, helping the boat reach the NCAA championship last season.
Also honored on Saturday was senior Colleen Gosa (Kewaskum, Wis.), the varsity eight bow seat on Saturday for the Big Ten championship. Gosa was named Wisconsin's winner of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award for Rowing.
Wisconsin returns to the water on May 14-15 at the 2005 NCAA Central/South Regional in Oak Ridge, Tenn. While no automatic bids to the NCAA are awarded at the regatta, it will be the final time schools can make a case for inclusion in the 12-team field for the 2005 NCAA Rowing Championships. The 12 teams, plus four additional varsity eights, will be named on Tuesday, May 17.
