Jeremy Sonkin Placed Among Top 100 in Preseason Rankings
September 15, 2005 | Men's Tennis
Wisconsin men's tennis player Jeremy Sonkin has been ranked among the Top 100 Division I college singles players. He was placed at No. 80 in the preseason rankings released earlier this week on collegetennisonline.com.
'We are really excited about Jeremy's preseason ranking,' said men's tennis coach Greg Van Emburgh. 'It is a reflection of his work and determination. He is continually raising his level and this is exciting to see. '
Eight student-athletes from the Big Ten Conference were ranked among the Top 100.
Sonkin, a sophomore from Wheaton, Ill., led the Badgers in his freshman campaign with a 16-5 record during the 2005 spring season. He was the only Wisconsin team member to earn a singles win at the Big Ten championships and finished conference play with an 8-3 mark in regular-season action.
Sonkin has earned a spot in the All-American qualifier slated for Sept. 30 through Oct. 2 in Tulsa, Okla.
The Badgers officially will kick off the fall season Sept. 23-25 at the Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Ind.
