For the first time since 2000 and for just the second time in school history, Wisconsin's varsity eight is the Big Ten Boat of the Week. The No. 8 Badgers opened their season last weekend at the Longhorn Invitational on Town Lake in Austin, Texas and swept four schools.
Wisconsin defeated host-school Texas, as well as Miami (Fla.), Duke and Kansas State on the way to a perfect 4-0 weekend. Texas and Duke are both receiving votes in the USRowing/CRCA Coaches Preseason Poll. Wisconsin finished the 2,000-meter course in 6:36.98, .97 seconds ahead of the Longhorns before beating the Blue Devils by 1.4 seconds (6:38.2). The Badgers finished the competition by recording victories over Miami and Kansas State with times of 6:41.4 and 6:40.7, respectively.
Wisconisin's lineup from the weekend was steady, though the Badgers rotated their coxswain throughout the races. Coxswain Meghan Bradshaw (Davidsonville, Md.) raced in two races, while Megan Stevens (Clinton, Wis.) and Erin Davies (Golf, Ill.) also coxed races. The rest of the lineup, from stroke to bow included Lindsay Bush (Green Bay, Wis.), Shayla Dvorak (Michicot, Wis.), Emily Simonds (Concord, Mass.), Ana Cox (Overland Park, Kan.), Kirby Gallie (Sarasota, Fla.), Kirsten Kuhn (Hudson, Wis.), Kari Harmon (Menomonie, Wis.) and Katie Pofahl (Middleton, Wis.).
