Johnson Leads UW Contingency on Day 1 of National Championships

University of Wisconsin sophomore-to-be Eric Johnson placed eighth in the 100-meter breaststroke B-Final with a time of 1:03.98 and was the lone UW finalist on the first day of the ConocoPhillips National Championships at William Woollett Aquatics Center.
Johnson notched a time of 1:02.78 in the preliminary round (11th overall) and was joined by former Badger Kevin Zakrzewski, who ended up fourth in the C-Final with a time of 1:03.63.
Other UW alumni who placed were Carly Piper'she took seventh in the B-Final of the 400-meter freestyle with a mark of 4:19.73'and Tim Liebhold, a second-place finisher (4:23.77) in the 400-meter IM B-Final.
Competition will continue tomorrow with the women's 100 back, 200 free and 400 free relay, and the men's 200 free, 100 back and 200 fly.
