Women's Soccer Falls at Ohio State, 2-1
September 29, 2006 | Women's Soccer
The Wisconsin women's soccer team (4-4-2, 1-2-0 Big Ten) fell to Ohio State 2-1 Friday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus. Sheri Ferron scored for the second consecutive match, the Badgers' only goal of the game.
All the scoring came in the first half. Ohio State was on the board first with a goal by All-Big Ten player Lara Dickenmann in the 20th minute. The Badgers would respond less than seven minutes later when Ferron (Brookfield, Wis.) netted her second goal of the year. Junior defender Ann Eshun (Madison, Wis.) was credited with the assist.
Ohio State didn't let the tie stand for long. One minute and 49 seconds later, the Buckeyes had regained the lead with a score from Jenna Greenwood in the 28th minute. That would be all Ohio State would need to claim its first conference win of the year.
The Buckeyes (5-4-1, 1-2-0 Big Ten) outshot Wisconsin 17-11 for the match, including an 8-3 advantage in the first half alone. Senior Allison Preiss (St. Louis, Mo.) led the Badgers with four shots. Seven other Wisconsin players had one shot each.
Lynn Murray earned the start in the net for the Cardinal and White. The junior from Marietta, Ga., finished with six saves.
Wisconsin returns to action against border battle rival Minnesota at 1 p.m. Sunday in Minneapolis.
