
Badgers Host Loyola, Meet Illinois on the Road

The Wisconsin women's soccer team takes a break from Big Ten competition as they face non-conference opponent Loyola University Chicago on Thursday, Oct. 11. The McClimon Soccer Complex match, set to begin at 7 p.m., will be the first meeting in program history between the two teams. UW then returns to conference action Sunday, Oct. 14 as it takes on the Illini at 1 p.m. in Champaign, Ill.
Last weekend, the Badgers continued Big Ten play against Penn State and Ohio State at the McClimon Soccer Complex. After losing on Friday to PSU, 0-2, UW responded by shutting out OSU on Sunday, 1-0.
With a 12th-minute goal against the Buckeyes on Sunday, junior Taylor Walsh (Madison, Wis.) ended UW's four-game scoreless stretch. The eventual game-winning goal also broke Wisconsin's four-game losing streak. Tricia Krombach (Appleton, Wis.) tallied her second assist of the season on Walsh's goal,which was her third of the season.
Junior Jamie Klages (Coronado, Calif.) earned her fourth shutout of the season as keeper, improving to 4-5-1. After 920 minutes in goal this year, Klages owns a goals-against average of 1.27 and a save percentage of .780.
UW's Thursday opponent, Loyola (8-5-0), comes to Madison on a six-game winning streak. Last weekend the Ramblers topped Cleveland State, 3-0, and Illinois State, 2-1, in the second over time. Sophomore Cynthia Morote-Ariza has been carrying the Ramblers through their winning season with 47 shots, 27 of which have been on goal. Morote-Ariza netted her fourth goal of the week and tied a school record with her ninth of the season on Sunday. To date, Morote-Ariza has recorded nine goals and six assists resulting in a 24-point total.
Loyola has played two different keepers throughout the season. Colleen Dougherty has seen 765 minutes in goal, while Lauren Sommer has seen 405 minutes. Dougherty earned her sixth win of the season on Sunday against Illinois State.
On Sunday, Wisconsin heads south to face the 7-4-0 Fighting Illini. Illinois shutout both of its Big Ten opponents last weekend beating Minnesota, 1-0, and Iowa 6-0. The Fighting Illini have scored 27 goals this season from 12 different players.
Senior Ella Masar leads the Illini pack with 38 shots, 17 of which were on goal. Masar has tallied 15 points throughout the team's 11 games coming from six goals and three assists. Laura Knutson follows Masar having tallied 11 points (5 goals, 1 assist).
In net for the Illini, Lindsey Carstens has seen 961:24 minutes of action. Carstens has earned five shutouts this season, owning a goals-against average of 1.03 and a .744 save percentage.
