Sprinters in spotlight at Badger Track Classic

MADISON, Wis. -- While a majority of the Badgers watched from the sidelines, several members of the Wisconsin men's track and field team used Saturday's Badger Track to tune up for next week's big Wisconsin Elite Invitational.
The results were strong for those who took advantge of the opportunity, especially for the Badgers' sprinters.
The sophomore duo of Temi        Ogunbodede and Adum Gross swept        the top two spots in the 60-meter hurdles, with Ogunbodede winning in 8.15 seconds and        Gross just behind in second in 8.23.
        
         Runners with UW ties swept the top four finishing positions in the 400 meters, with        sophomore Pat        Plank (49.76) leading the way ahead of unattached freshman Drew Simmons        (50.05), junior Billy Lease        (50.23) and unattached freshman Brett Hartman        (50.28).
        
         Wisconsin athletes also went 1-2 in the 500 meters, as sophomore Andrew        Milenkovski clocked in at 1:05.53 to grab the win ahead of freshman Patrick        Moakley, who ran a 1:09.09 to finish second while competing unattached.
        
         It was a similar result in the 300 meters, with sophomore Grant Bughman        running a 34.98 to take the win ahead of senior Barry Gill and his        36.00-second clocking.
        
         Bughman and Lease also grabbed a win in the 4x400-meter relay, combining with sophomore Kyle Jefferson        and freshman Gavin        Robertson to clock a time of 3:19.18.
        
         Beyond the sprints, unattached freshman Danny Buechel won the mile in 4:15.64.
        
         Junior Mickey        DeFilippo highlighted the Badgers' day in the field events, as he cleared an indoor        personal-best 16 feet, 11 inches to take the top spot in the pole vault.
        
         Also in the field events, freshman Marcus        Jenkins, competing unattached, won the long jump with a leap of 23 feet, 10 3/4 inches,        while redshirt freshman Lukey Klitz        cleared 6-5 to win the high jump.
        
         The Badgers now turn their attention to the Wisconsin Elite Invitational, which is set for        Friday and Saturday, Jan. 29-30, inside The Shell. The scored team competition will pit the        Badgers against Big Ten rival Purdue, as well as Indiana State and South Dakota.
