MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women’s openweight rowing program earned its third consecutive invitation to the NCAA rowing championships, the NCAA announced Tuesday afternoon. The Big Ten and Central Region champions will compete May 28-30 at the 2010 NCAA Rowing Championships on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif. The field is comprised of 16 teams.
Wisconsin, which is making its sixth NCAA appearance in seven years and its seventh appearance all-time, looks to improve upon last year’s 13th place result at the event.
The Badgers are seeded No. 14 in the varsity eight, No. 8 in the second varsity eight and No. 4 in the varsity four. UW’s highest finish in the varsity eight is 13th, which it has done twice, while it has finished as high as third in the second varsity eight in 2006 and second in the varsity four in 2009. UW’s top finish as a team is eighth in 2006.
See below for heat assignments and seeds. The top three boats in each heat advance to the semifinals, while the remaining crews race in a repechage heat for the final three semifinal spots in each event.
The Big Ten had four of its schools selected to the championship, including Michigan State, Michigan and Ohio State. The Pac-10 Conference led the way with six schools receiving bids.
Highlights of the Divisions I, II and III Women's Rowing Championships will appear on the 2010 CBS Sports Presents Championships of the NCAA (spring seasonal show), set to air at 4 p.m. Eastern time Saturday, June 19 on CBS.
