Big Ten releases seeds, lanes for rowing championships

MADISON, Wis. -- The No. 13 University of Wisconsin women's rowing team earned the first seed in the novice eights for Sunday's 2011 Big Ten Championships in Indianapolis at Eagle Creek Park, the Big Ten Conference announced.

Looking to defend their 2010 Big Ten title, UW is top-seeded in the first novice eights. The Badgers also earned the second seed in the second varsity eights and the second varsity fours, in addition to the third seed in the first varsity eights and first varsity fours. For the second novice eights, UW goes in with the four seed.
Wisconsin is seeking to capture back-to-back Big Ten titles, after landing their first conference crown in program history in 2010 in Laingsburg, Mich.
All Big Ten rowing teams are either ranked or receiving votes in the most recent CRCA/USRowing Coaches Poll. Wisconsin is ranked 13th in the most recent poll released May 4, good for third among conference teams. Michigan State leads the Big Ten at No. 8, with Ohio State at No. 10 and Michigan at No.16. Minnesota, Iowa and Indiana all received votes.
