GOLD RIVER, Calif. -- On the last practice day before the start of the 2011 NCAA Rowing Championships, women's rowing head coach Bebe Bryans led a ceremony that honored the spirit of a former Badger coach and student-athlete. That ceremony revealed the name of Wisconsin's newest boat: "Ela's Pride."
The boat, used by UW's second varsity eight, has informally gone by the name "Brenda" over recent weeks since the new boat joined Wisconsin's fleet.
Ela, who will be inducted into the UW Athletics Hall of Fame this coming fall, was a member of Wisconsin's 1975 national championship-winning crew. She later took over the program, directing the Badgers from 1979 to 1997 and again for the spring of 2004.
