CHICAGO -- After each of its last three games were decided by a goal or less, the Wisconsin women's soccer team looked to make sure there would be no close calls on Wednesday night.
UW made that point loud and clear early in the match as it used a four-goal first half to put away the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers, 5-1, at the Loyola Soccer Park.
Four Badgers scored, led by freshman Rose Lavelle's two-goal outing. Sophomores Kinley McNicoll and Marisa Kresge also added goals, while Cara Walls continued her hot streak, scoring her sixth goal in as many games for UW (4-1-1).

"We hadn't scored a goal first all season, so we made it a point to put the pressure on our opponent first and set the tempo right away," UW head coach Paula Wilkins said. "We also focused on continuing to attack when we do get a goal and I think we did a good job of addressing that this past week in training."
Kresge kicked off the route with a score in the ninth-minute of action. Lavelle found Kresge in the box following a cross from the right side of the field, as the sophomore tallied a score in her second-straight game.
Two minutes later, Walls tallied her sixth score of the season, chipping the ball over Loyola (1-3-2) keeper Monica Gonyo. McNicoll assisted on the score, extending UW's lead to 2-0 at the 12-minute mark in the first half.
"I think teams really have to focus on (Walls and Lavelle) because they move so much and they create so much space and are so good on the ball," Wilkins explained. "That allows some people some other opportunities and Marisa has benefited from those chances."
Lavelle continued her assault on Loyola's defense midway through the first stanza, gathering a through ball from sophomore Lindsey Holmes and sniping in a goal from outside the box.
Just under four minutes later, McNicoll tallied her third goal of the year, sending in a shot from the left side of the box and curling it past Gonyo.
Just after the intermission, Lavelle sealed the deal with her second score of the match, tallying an unassisted goal in the 50th minute.
The Badgers tallied 17 shots, including nine shots on goal, in the win. Goalkeeper Genevieve Richard allowed a season-low one goal and improved to 4-1-1 on the season.
Wisconsin returns home this Sunday, Sept. 15, to begin its in-state round robin. UW welcomes Milwaukee to the McClimon Complex for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
