
Badgers close out competition at National Championships

SAN ANTONIO -- Austin Byrd and Nicholas Schafer had nice showings in the final day of work for Badgers at the 2015 Phillips 66 National Championships in San Antonio, Texas on Monday.
Both Byrd and Schafer qualified for B Finals in their respective events, as Byrd swam in the 200-meter backstroke and Schafer competed in the 200-meter breaststroke.
Byrd posted a time of one minute, 59.77 seconds and finished 11th during preliminaries of the 200 backstroke. He went on to finish eighth in the B Final with a time of 2:00.75.
In the 200 breaststroke, Schafer touched in 2:13.86 during preliminaries to advance. He later shaved off time during finals and finished fourth in the B Final at 2:13.10.
For the women, Chase Kinney finished 24th in prelims of the 100-meter freestyle with her time of 56.23 seconds.
A trio of Badgers competed in the 200-meter breaststroke, as Anna Meinholz finished 45th during prelims in 2:35.94, Jenny Holtzen placed 46th with a time of 2:35.98 and Maria Carlson was 69th in 2:38.81.
Both Badger men and women relay teams competed in the 400-meter medley relay to close out the event. Todd McCarthy, Schafer, Harrison Tran and Cannon Clifton combined to finish 11th in 3:34.35. Annie Tamblyn, Meinholz, Dana Grindall and Kinney teamed up to finish 13th in 4:12.28.
