Coach and player quotes
Head coach Paula Wilkins
On getting a win over Marquette
"Huge credit to Marquette. We've been watching them all season and the reason we play them in the preseason is so they can show us how we can improve. You can tell from the first time we played them in August that they've gotten so much better. Their attacking presence really stretched us. I'm just happy with how we performed today and the result we got. We get to move forward in the NCAA tournament which is all its about. We did enough to win today."
On Rose Lavelle
"Big players do big things at big times. The last few games Rose has been that big player. She has just gotten better and better each game. Over the last 10 games she has been probably our best player covering and now she's putting the ball in the back of the net. It's a great time for her to be peaking and I'm happy as a coach. I'm looking forward to seeing it from her the next couple games."
On going into Florida
"Confidence comes from preparation. The Big Ten and this game has prepared us for Florida and so we have to take all the experience we have and put it all on the field against Florida."
Senior Rose Lavelle
On her goal
"There was a turnover in the midfield and I usually slot it out wide but I decided to cut in the middle and go for it."
On the win
"Playing Marquette is always a big game that we get pumped up for. We knew they were going to come out hard. We played them preseason so they know us and we knew them. It was going to be a good game. To win the last time at McClimon means so much. I'm so thankful for my teammates."
On going into Florida
"We take this night to celebrate but tomorrow we watch film and practice and recover. We have to do whatever we can to get ready for Florida on Friday."
On the backline
"Defensively, we showed up. We brought what we had the last stretch of the season. I think it really pays. Our mentality and tenacity every time we step on the field is something that can get us far."
On player chemistry on the field
"I know when I get the ball I can find them anywhere because they're always moving. I think as the season has gone on, our relationships have gotten even better. I'm excited to keep working."
Junior Sydney McGinnis
On the win
"I'm so happy I get to keep playing with the seniors. It's so great that I get to play in the NCAA tournament again after my freshman year. It's just really special that we get to keep playing – I love this group."
On the forwards' relationship
"It's grown a lot. It has really developed and grown. I think we're the best we've ever been and it's amazing. It shows with the results of the games which is really cool."
On Rose Lavelle
"She's awesome. I don't have words for it. She's so fast and no one can stop her. She's a great person to have on the team."
On going into Florida
"We're going straight back into practice like normal. It's going to be the same as any other game and that's how we'll think of it."
