Badger men and women recognized for spring classroom performance
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin swimming and diving program prides itself in not only developing athletic ability, but also in encouraging success in the classroom and well-rounded student-athletes. That was reaffirmed this season, as both the Wisconsin men's and women's teams were named Scholar All-America Teams by the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) on Wednesday.
With both programs led by head coach Whitney Hite, the women's team finished the semester with a 3.31 team GPA and the men finished with a 3.06 team GPA.
This marks the eighth-consecutive semester that the UW women have earned the scholastic team distinction.
A total of 658 teams, representing 388 colleges and universities, received the honor. It is only the second time in the program's 30-plus year history that more than 600 teams were recognized.
To be selected as a CSCAA Scholar All-America Team, programs must have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or higher over the spring semester. Top teams were recognized for both large teams (more than 22 women or 21 men) and small.
This past winter, Wisconsin had six men and 12 women earn Academic All-Big Ten recognition. For the men, Dan Cech, Sean Maloney, Todd McCarthy, Nathan Mueller, Ryan O'Donnell and Harrison Tran were honored. For the women, Marissa Berg, Madison Blaydes, Maria Carlson, Dana Grindall, Madeline Hazle, Rachel Johnson, Chase Kinney, Maddie Martin, Ashley Peterson, Annie Tamblyn, Danielle Valley and Grace Wold were recognized.
