Junior collected conference-leading mark in the weight throw Friday
MADISON, Wis. – After an outstanding performance at the UW Shell Shocker, Wisconsin men's track and field student-athlete Riley Budde received his first career Big Ten Conference Field Athlete of the Week honor, the league announced Wednesday.
Budde posted a conference-leading mark in the weight throw of 72 feet, 11 1/4 inches, to win the competition in UW's final regular season indoor meet of the year. His mark ranks sixth in the country and second in program history behind NCAA-record holder Michael Lihrman, a two-time NCAA champion in the event.
A native of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, Budde also shined in the shot put with a heave of 59-7, a season-best mark. That throw ranks 11th in the Big Ten and 40th nationally.
Budde and the Badgers head to Geneva, Ohio, for the 2017 Big Ten Indoor Championships at the SPIRE Institute on Friday and Saturday. Action on both days begins at 9 a.m. CT.
