UW’s 4x400 relay just misses program record at Armory Invitational
NEW YORK, N.Y. – A day after the Wisconsin women's track and field team won the distance medley relay at the Armory Invitational, the Badgers trotted a 4x400 relay team looking to make its mark in the Big Apple.
The UW quartet of Gabby DesRosiers, Ebony McClendon, Georgia Ellenwood and Brenna Detra came close to breaking UW's school record in the event as the group finished fourth with a time of 3 minutes, 43.77 seconds.
The group ran the second-fastest time in program history, missing the school record held by Carrie Edmunds, Brittney Harper, Jessica Flax and Deanna Latham by only .12 seconds.
Freshman Chinne Okoronkwo put on a display with another impressive performance in the triple jump, finishing second in the competition with a mark of 41 feet, 10 1/2 inches (12.77 meters). Fellow Badger Tiffany Ike came in 21st in the event with a distance of 35-8 ½ (10.88m).
On the track, Emma Reifel captured a second-place finish in the mile run. The senior brilliantly waited for the right time to strike, and used a late push to wind up as the runner-up. Reifel crossed the finish line in a time of 4:53.52.
In the 200 meters, McClendon added to her impressive meet with a run of 24.53 in the preliminary race. The junior won her heat but just missed out on the final of the event. Freshman Gabby DesRosiers had a solid showing, coming in second place for her heat with a time of 25.22.
Wisconsin will head to the Iowa State Classic for its next indoor competition with action starting on Friday, February 10.
