Milwaukee senior led Badgers to ninth place NCAA team finish
MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin women's rowing senior Maria Schmid has been named a 2017 Division I Pocock Second-Team All-America Award winner, the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) has announced.
Schmid, already a 2017 CRCA First-Team All-Region pick and a first-team All-Big Ten rower, now adds the highest of honors to her crew resume.
She sat six seat for Wisconsin's varsity eight that placed 11th at the 2017 NCAA Rowing Championships. An academic All-Big Ten selection, Schmid stroked UW's top boat for much of the spring, including at the Big Ten championships, Clemson Invite, Big Ten Double Dual and San Diego Crew Classic.
With the honor, Schimd becomes the 13th Badger women's openweight rower honored as an All-American.
