Wisconsin takes a tough loss to polished Oregon squad
EUGENE, Ore. – Wisconsin (4-3) falls to an elite Oregon (5-2) team, 5-2, coming up short in the first segment of their road trip out west.
Doubles: Doubles was a heated affair, with both teams fighting passionately to claim the first tally. Junior Daniel Soyfer and freshman Jesper Freimuth had their hands full with No. 37 Oregon pair of Simon Stevens and Ty Gentry. Soyfer and Freimuth were handed a 6-0 loss.
While the Badgers were down a game, senior Josef Dodridge and junior Osgar O'Hoisin clawed their way to a 7-6 (7) win over Armando Soemarno and Charles Roberts. But senior Chema Carranza and sophomore Chase Colton ended up on the wrong side of the tie-break, losing 7-6 (6) to No. 17 Cormac Clissold and Thomas Laurent.
Singles: O'Hoisin shined to win his singles match. It was quick work, in fact, beating Riki Oshima in straight sets 6-1, 6-3. Sophomore Daniel Soyfer found himself in the same situation, splitting first sets with Akihiro Tanaka, 6-5, 4-6, before muscling his way into the third. Soyfer dominated the entire frame, winning 6-0.
Senior Chema Carranza was in a dog-fight of his own against powerhouse and No. 12 Thomas Laurent, battling deep into the third 7-5, 6-7, 2-2 before Laurent pulled away for a 6-3 third-set win.
Westerman's Wing: "Definitely a tough one today. Oregon is a very good team and I thought we competed very well. Things could have been very interesting had we converted the doubles point. That's college tennis though, it happens that way sometimes. These are great early-season matches that will test us and get us better. No better teaching tool than being in very close matches."

Up next: Wisconsin continues its campaign along the west coast, traveling to Seattle, Washington for a noon (CT) match against the Huskies.
