Badgers head east for largest invitational of the season
MADISON, Wis. — The No. 12 Wisconsin women's rowing team has a quick turnaround in racing as they travel east for the Clemson Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Clemson, South Carolina. The Badgers will race three times for the two-day regatta beginning Friday morning at 8:30 a.m. ET from Lake Hartwell.
LAST TIME OUT: The Badgers had a big weekend at the Big Ten Double Dual taking four of six races against No. 13 Iowa and five of seven races against No. 20 Indiana. Four Badger crews also went undefeated on the day--the second varsity eight, varsity four, second varsity four, and the third varsity four. The two novice eights hit a milestone, racing for the first time for Wisconsin.
ABOUT THE INVITE: The seventh annual Clemson Invitational will be the largest invite of the season for the Badgers as the regatta will host 21 teams across nine different conferences and 19 states. Multiple top-ranked teams will be in attendance, including No. 10 Virginia, No. 17 Duke, No. 19 Syracuse, and No. 20 Alabama. Racing will consist of two-round robin heats on Friday that will place the crews into a three-leveled finals racing Saturday morning for each boat category: 'A Final,' 'B Final,' and 'C Final.' All Wisconsin crews will race out of lane 4 in the first of three heats for each boat category for all Friday racing.

REWIND: Last season at the Clemson Invitational, the UW varsity eight grabbed a fourth-place finish in the grand final in a tight race against Virginia who crossed the line .17 seconds ahead to take third, USC finished second while Ohio State came in first. The second varsity eight cruised through the first two flights, but would end up fourth in the grand final behind Virginia, Ohio State and USC. UW varsity four walked away with a fifth-place finish in the grand final behind Ohio State, Indiana, Virginia, and Oklahoma and the novice eight won the petite final in the third varsity eight category. Two seasons ago, the second varsity eight had the best overall performance at the invitational to win the Breakout Boat of the Clemson Invitational.
