Badgers beaten 5-1 by St Cloud

Max Johnson scores first goal as a Badger

ST. CLOUD, Minn. — The Wisconsin men's hockey team (2-3-0) fell 5-1 to No. 3 St. Cloud State (5-2-0) on Friday at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.

The Badgers fell victim to St. Cloud's lethal power-play unit in the first period.

Spencer Meier scored first on the man advantage at 12:01 into the first when the rebound of his shot hit a Badger and banked in. The goal was assisted by Seamus Donohue and Jami Krannila. Shortly after, Krannila added to the Huskies' tally with another power-play goal at 13:30.

St. Cloud went up 3-0 at 4:05 with a goal from Kevin Fitzgerald.

St. Cloud scored their third power-play goal of the game at 9:06 of the second period.

Before the second period was over, the Huskies scored during a 4-on-4 stretch for a 5-0 lead.

Graduate transfer Max Johnson put the Badgers on the board and broke St. Cloud State's shutout hopes with his first career goal as a Badger at 6:17 in the third period. Brock Caufield fired the puck on net from the corner and Johnson was there to jam it across the goal line for his 49th career collegiate goal.

The Badgers ultimately fell 5-1 to St. Cloud in game one of their weekend series.
