Badgers lose 2-1 to Purdue

Viggiano scores for UW in the setback

MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 contest to Purdue on a rainy Sunday afternoon at the McClimon Soccer Complex.

Purdue (9-2-2, 4-1-0 Big Ten)  found the back of the net first with a goal in the 12th minute as Sarah Griffith headed the ball into the net from out front to take an early 1-0 lead. 

Wisconsin (7-4-2, 2-2-1) outshot Purdue 8-5 in the first half, but were unable to even the score heading into intermission. 

Purdue went up 2-0 with a goal in the 60th minute from Griffith again. 

The Badgers answered quickly, scoring in the 61st minute. Natalie Viggiano scored from the right side of the net off a throw-in, assisted by a header from Emma Jackaniec.

 
The Badgers were able to create some chances late, but were unable to force overtime with the Boilermakers. 

Up Next: UW will head to Champaign, Illinois, to take on Illinois on Friday at 6 p.m. CT.
