Wisconsin falls 4-1 in series finale
MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin men's hockey team (4-6-0, 2-2-0-1-0-0 Big Ten) fell 4-1 to No. 5 Minnesota (6-4-0, 3-1-0-0-1-0 Big Ten) in the final game of their series on Saturday at the Kohl Center.
Minnesota struck first at 6:12 of the first period. Matthew Knies scored off a rebound, assisted by Mason Nevers.
Gopher forward Aaron Huglen scored unassisted at the 8:09 mark to put his team up 2-0.
Minnesota made it 3-0 on the power play at 14:56, from Jaxon Nelson. Knies and Ben Meyers helped on the play.
The Badgers got on the board with a power-play goal 51 seconds into the second period. Roman Ahcan netted his first of the season on a one-timer. Frosh defenseman Corson Ceulemans teed it up, with secondary help from Brock Caufield.
Minnesota was quick to respond with a goal 16 seconds later to take a 4-1 lead and stem the comeback bid. Sammy Walker finished a pass from Blake McLaughlin.
Neither team found the back of the net in the third period. Minnesota claimed game two of the border battle 4-1 to split the series with Wisconsin.
The Badgers outshot Minnesota 38-28 and converted on one of two power-play opportunities.
