UW earns biggest home win since 2017 with 5-0 triumph
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women's soccer team capped off its first home weekend of the season with a 5-0 triumph over Eastern Illinois on Sunday at the McClimon Soccer Complex.
Senior midfielder Natalie Viggiano led the team with two of those goals, hitting the back of the net in each half.
Viggiano got things started early and scored in the ninth minute, scoring her first of the season thanks to a Cammie Murtha assist.
Junior Emma Jaskaniec kept the offense rolling, scoring in the 18th minute courtesy of a Lauren Rice helper. It marked the third-straight game Jaskaniec has scored in as her three goals this season pace the team.
In the 36th minute, Jenna Kiraly tallied her first of the season thanks to a Jaskaniec assist to give UW a 3-0 lead heading into half time.
Viggiano opened up the second half just like the first and scored her second goal of the game in the 53rd minute off another Murtha assist.
Freshman Joyelle Washington capped off the scoring for UW, scoring her first career goal in her first appearance for UW in the 73rd minute.
Notes to Know
- Jordyn Bloomer started the game between the sticks for UW before Lily Rawnsley entered the game in the second half. Neither Badger goalie had a shot on goal to contend with.
- UW outshot Eastern Illinois 39-1 and had six corner kicks to EIU's 0.
- It marked UW's largest home victory since a 5-0 win over Toledo in the 2017 NCAA Tournament.
- UW has scored four or more goals in two of its four games this season after earning a 4-0 triumph against Kansas City in its first game of the year.
- The Badgers have posted shutouts in three of their four games so far this year.
