SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Taking on its second ranked opponent of the season, the No. 22 Wisconsin women's soccer team fell 4-1 to No. 16 Notre Dame Thursday night at Alumni Stadium.
After a scoreless opening half, the Fighting Irish's attack erupted for four goals to hand the Badgers their first loss of the season. Emma Jaskaniec furthered her point streak to four games by tallying her team-best third goal of the season in the 79th minute.
Notre Dame pressured with a trio of shots on goal over the first nine minutes, but Erin McKinney defused the threats. Adee Boer got the lone shot of the half off for the Badgers in the 43rd minute as the game remained scoreless at the break.
Wingate caught fire as she scored in transition in the 62nd minute, and followed two minutes later with another flick into the back of the net.
Notre Dame was one of 12 teams that had yet to surrender a goal this season until Jaskaniec slipped past the backline and buried a feed from Maddie Ishaug to get the Badgers within one. However, Notre Dame answered just under three minutes later as Maddie Mercado got on the board before Wingate notched a hat trick in the 86th minute.
Wisconsin will remain in Indiana as it visits Butler on Sunday, Sept. 4.
