MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin men's and women's swim and dive program continue its second half of the season with a tri-meet against Michigan and Pittsburgh. The 17th-ranked Badger women (4-1, 1-1 B1G) take on No. 16 Michigan (5-5, 1-2) and Pitt (3-2) while the 24th-ranked UW men (4-1, 2-0 B1G) swim off against the Wolverines (3-1, 0-1) and Pitt (3-2) beginning at 9 a.m. CT on Saturday at the Canham Natatorium.
Here are five things to know for this weekend.
1. ELITE COMPANY: In the most recent CSCAA rankings, the Badger women are ranked 17th after facing receiving votes Northwestern this past weekend. Five Big Ten women's teams are ranked among the top 25 in the national rankings. The men's team earned the 24th slot after defeating Northwestern in their most recent Big Ten dual matchup. Five men's conference teams are ranked in the top 25.
2. DUAL MATCHUPS: The Badger women currently only have one loss (4-1) in dual matchups this season after falling to Northwestern last Saturday. The UW men's team enters this weekend 4-1 in dual meets with its only loss coming at No. 5 Arizona State at the start of the season. The men's team also beat UCSD by an astounding 116 points on Dec. 30.
3. MAC ATTACK: Junior
Mackenzie McConagha looks to lead the Badger women to another B1G regular-season dual meet win this weekend. McConagha was recognized as the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week after earning two individual wins against UC San Diego. She is joined by sophomore
Abby Carlson, who finished the Northwestern dual meet with two individual wins in the 200 free (1:47.62) and the 500 free (4:49.20).
4. NEW MARKS FOR NEWMARK: Junior
Jake Newmark looks to continue his success in backstroke this weekend. Newmark was the top finisher against Northwestern, earning four wins in the 100 back (47.19), the 200 back (1:46.11), and was a member of the winning 200 free and 400 medley relays.
