Badgers shutdown No. 20/18 Notre Dame

Moe records third shutout of season

MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin men's hockey team shutout No. 20/18 Notre Dame on Friday at the Kohl Center.

After a scoreless 20 minutes, Wisconsin rallied in the second period with a pair of goals before shutting down the Fighting Irish in the final frame.

The Badgers outshot Notre Dame 16-7 in the first period but neither team was able to find the back of the net.

Freshman defenseman Tyson Jugnauth's point shot helped break the ice at 14:06 in the second period when Carson Bantle tipped the shot for a power-play goal, his fourth tally of the season. Cruz Lucius set up Jugnauth on the far-side point for the wrist shot.

Corson Ceulemans gave Wisconsin a 2-0 lead before the second period was over. He scooped up a loose puck in the neutral zone and skated into Notre Dame's zone, lining up a shot from the top of the circle that trickled past goaltender Ryan Bischel.

The Badgers blanked the Fighting Irish in the third period for a 2-0 final.

Goaltender Jared Moe stood tall in net all night, stopping all 27 shots he faced for his third shutout of the season and second in three games.

Notes to know:
  • Cruz Lucius tallied an assist for his sixth straight game with at least one point
  • Carson Bantle scored for the fourth time this year, all in the past nine games.
  • Bantle's goal was originally credited to Tyson Jugnauth, but the change was made after the game.
  • Freshman forward Charlie Stramel was back at the Kohl Center after helping Team USA win bronze at the 2023 World Junior Championship in Canada, but did not play in the game.
