MADISON, Wis. – One of the nation's top rowing settings is set to welcome the Big Ten rowing championships for the first time since 2019 on Sunday, May 19, when the eight Big Ten women's rowing programs descend on Devil's Lake State Park in Baraboo.
In addition to Wisconsin, crews from Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Ohio State and Rutgers are set to participate in races of various boat classes.
Racing is set to start at 9 a.m. CT with awards scheduled for 12:30 p.m. The full tentative race schedule can be viewed here.
Fans have the ability to view racing from all angles from the start line to the finish line, up above from the bluffs or at water level. The course and venue is spectator friendly.
On Championship Sunday, the South Shore will be restricted and only accessible to Big Ten Rowing event permit holders along with championship vehicle admission ticket holders (sold online in advance). A vehicle admission sticker is required on all motor vehicles stopping in state park, forest, recreation area and trail parking areas.
Important parking information as well as additional race and venue details can be found on the Big Ten Rowing Championships Central web page.
The event will stream live on BIG+ with an all-star group of commentators including former Wisconsin and Michigan State head coach Bebe Bryans, Wisconsin Big Ten champion and U.S. Olympian Grace Latz, as well as former Iowa head coach, world champion and Wisconsin rower Mandi Kowal. The event airs tape-delayed on BTN on Sunday, May 26 at 9:30 a.m. CT.
The eight-team Big Ten Championships marks the fourth women's rowing event to take place at Devil's Lake since 2015. The Badgers' first event took place on May 2, 2015, with Michigan State and Minnesota competing. UW also raced there on Oct. 18, 2015, against Minnesota, and played host to the Big Ten/Big 12 Invite on April 23, 2016, with the Badgers, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Kansas and Iowa taking part. The program has scrimmaged at the venue, as well. The Wisconsin men's team has also competed at Devil's Lake several times since first racing there in 2012.
UW also played host to the 2019 Big Ten Rowing Championships at Devil's Lake.
