The University of Wisconsin Spirit Squad is a highly visible, enthusiastic and talented group of student-athletes with a primary purpose to support Intercollegiate Athletics and serve as ambassadors for the University of Wisconsin. The Spirit Squad is composed of the Cheerleading Squad, the Dance Team and the Bucky Badger Mascots. The cheerleaders can be seen at all home Football, Women's Volleyball, Men’s Basketball and Women’s Basketball games. The dance team performs at all home Football, Men’s Basketball and Women's Basketball games. Bucky Badger attends many athletic events throughout the fall, winter and spring seasons. All three teams represent Badger athletics and the University at various public relation events.
UW Spirit Squad members are students at the University of Wisconsin. In order to qualify to be a part of the squad, you must be a full-time student carrying a minimum of 12 credits per semester for the entire upcoming school year and carry a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.
Spirit Squad members are well supported student-athletes of the University of Wisconsin. As a part of the program, these student-athletes have access to some of the best athletic facilities in the country, along with quality Sports Medicine care, dedicated time from a Strength and Conditioning coach and use of the Fetzer Student Athlete Academic Center. Expenses directly associated with being a member of the spirit program are supported by the Intercollegiate Athletics Department. Squad members receive uniforms, practice gear, warm-ups, shoes and additional equipment.
Tryouts for all three teams are held each April, with the Cheerleading Squad also holding an additional tryout in September. High school seniors and transfer students are eligible to tryout for the cheerleading squad and dance team each spring at on campus tryouts or through video submission, once they have been admitted to the University.
