Dean Garrison then presented three resolutions protesting against the action barring Negroes from competing in the triangular track meet at Columbia, Missouri, on April fifteenth. On motion the resolutions were approved as follows:
RESOLVED:
(1) That as a matter of principle the Faculty is opposed to the engagement of a University athletic team in an intercollegiate contest in which any member of the team is barred because of his race;
(2) That the Athletic Committee be asked to inquire into the circumstances of the proposed track meet at Missouri, and to take appropriate action in accordance with this resolution if the fact so warrant and if the arrangements already made have not so far proceeded as to prevent withdrawal without breach of faith by the University;
(3) That the Athletic Committee be asked to consider and to report to the Faculty how similar difficulties may best be avoided in the future.
