Dave Evans
Celebrating Wisconsin's Black History
One of the top wrestlers of his era, Dave Evans dominated the mat for four seasons at Wisconsin.
A native of Rockford, Illinois, Evans didn't take up wrestling until his freshman year of high school, but he was apparently a fast learner. A four-time letterwinner at Wisconsin from 1976-80, Evans earned back-to-back All-America honors with third-place finishes at the NCAA championships in both 1979 and 1980.
After finishing runner up in the Big Ten as both a sophomore and junior, Evans broke through as a senior, winning the Big Ten title and the Midlands Wrestling Tournament championship at 167 pounds in 1980.
