Alexander Kasarov

A Wisconsin alum and former teammate of head coach Danny Westerman, Alexander Kasarov returned to Madison in July of 2018 to serve as the associate head coach for Wisconsin men's tennis.

Kasarov comes to Wisconsin after serving as the head men’s tennis coach at Monmouth University for the last two years, leading the Hawks to the NCAA tournament and the MAAC conference championship in both seasons. Overall, the two-time MAAC Coach of the Year piloted Monmouth to record of 28-25, including a perfect 18-0 mark in conference play.

Under his watch, Monmouth featured the MAAC Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year in 2018 as a total of 12 of his singles players and six doubles teams earned All-MAAC honors. That success included guiding Nicola Pipoli to an ITA national ranking, the first in school history.

Prior to his stint at Monmouth, Kasarov spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Davidson College and one year as a volunteer assistant coach for the Northwestern women’s tennis team. A veteran of the coaching circuit, Kasarov also spent time as a club professional and private tennis instructor for eight years in the greater Chicago area.

A 2004 All-Big Ten selection, Kasarov is a four-time letterwinner and former captain of the Wisconsin men’s tennis team. Kasarov competed at both No. 1 singles and doubles for three seasons in Madison (2003-05), earning team MVP honors as a junior in 2004. A native of Bourgas, Bulgaria, Kasarov earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from UW in 2005.

Westerman on Kasarov:
"I could not be more thrilled to bring in Alex. He brings a great deal of experience and he is extremely motivated and excited to help take Badger Tennis to the next level. First, Alex is a Badger. He knows what we are all about and understands what type of players will be successful here, both athletically and academically. Second, he has been a head coach. He has successfully led his own program – and with that experience, he is going to be huge addition here and will make an immediate impact. I am so excited to work alongside my old Badger teammate and together, lead this program that we both love so much.”
